![]() ![]() Configuring Windows to either show, or hide, every hidden file is a relatively simple task. In older versions of Windows, commonly encountered hidden files include msdos.sys, io.sys and boot.ini. ![]() Select Folder Options, then select the View tab. ProgramData is a hidden folder you may see when viewing hidden items. Select the Start button, then select Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization. Click on Change Icon, browse through the icons, and find the invisible, transparent icon (highlighted in blue in the image below). Type folder in the search box, then select Folder Options from the search results. Right-click on our nameless folder, click on Properties, and then on Customize tab. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, then select Search (or if you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then select Search). Under Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then select OK. Under File Explorer, select the highlighted Show settings link next to Change settings to show hidden and system files. In the search box on the taskbar, type show hidden files, and then select Show hidden files from the search results. This will name the folder using an unseen ASCII character. Select Rename from the context menu when you right-click the folder. Here's how to display hidden files and folders.
